Before a large efficacy trial can launch, critical groundwork must be laid. Dr. Sehulong Robert Moraba served as a Sub-Investigator for a key multi-country epidemiologic study (Gates MRI TBV02-E01). This study aimed to assess Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) positivity rates in high TB burden populations.
More than just data collection, this study was designed to build local capacity—strengthening sites, teams, and community relationships—to successfully conduct future large-scale TB vaccine efficacy trials. Dr. Moraba’s role underscored the importance of preparatory research in enabling the next generation of clinical trials in high-priority communities.
